"Never would I have had an opportunity to perform with such a diverse, talented and beautiful group of woman, and I was honored to be a part of such an incredible team. I am blessed to have learned so much from everyone that I worked with from 97 through 02. Thanks for giving me so many wonderful memories. I will always be proud of the time we spent on the field, on the court and on an 18-hour bus ride home from Memphis! "My very first game ever as a Sun Doll was also the very first football game ever for USF. In September of 1997, the USF football team played their first game at the old Houlihan's Stadium, which has since been leveled into a parking lot. Back before the Herd of Thunder marching band (who are INCREDIBLE, might I add! Go Andy!), the SunDolls performed at centerfield at half-time, and on the sidelines throughout the game. After practicing on an empty field prior to pre-game, we retreated to our dressing room that in those days, we shared with ALL of the cheerleaders, male and female. It was crowded, stinky and quite dangerous to squeeze that many catty college girls into one dressing room with only one small mirror: BAD NEWS. Anyway, everyone "suited up" and primped and preened until we were called on to perform chants and cheers for the alumni in the VIP areas. As we made our way from the VIP area toward the field, my stomach was turning cartwheels. I had been performing as a dancer since I was a child, but nothing could prepare me for the incredible energy of a stadium full of Bulls fans. I remember stepping out onto the field to the bass of the music pumping over the P.A. system, the camera crews and the ecstatic roar of our incomparably spirited USF alumni, families and student body. I think that may have been one of the few times in my life when I was truly speechless. For the next four hours, we rallied behind our Bulls, performing kick lines for each point scored and performing the routines that we'd worked so hard on during the summer. It was exhilarating! I remember collapsing in the dressing room after the game and knowing that I was hooked. Hooked on performing, hooked on football, hooked on my fabulous fellow SunDolls and hooked on my USF Bulls. Heck, I even married one of those USF football dudes five years later!"       DANIELLE PENA
